“I Don’t Need Obasanjo’s Support” — Obasanjo’s Daughter Declares as She Eyes 2027 Governorship

“I’m Lucky My Parents Are Still Alive” — Obasanjo’s Daughter Speaks on Political Ambition

Daughter of former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, has declared that she does not need her father’s political support as she prepares for the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State.
The former senator made the statement during an interview on The Morning Brief, where she spoke about her return to active politics and her ambition to lead the state.

According to Iyabo, at her current age, she is capable of making independent political decisions without relying on her father’s influence.
“I’m almost 60. At this age, many people no longer have both parents alive. I consider myself lucky that my father and mother are still alive,” she said.

She emphasized that while she does not need her father’s endorsement, she is confident that both her parents will vote for her if she contests the election.
“What I have said is that my father and my mother will vote for me; that’s all I ask,” she added.

Iyabo recently returned to Nigeria’s political scene after spending years away from active politics and has joined the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former Ogun Central Senator believes her political experience and track record make her a strong contender for the governorship position.

“I feel I am a formidable candidate to beat,” she said confidently, signaling that the race for Ogun State’s top job may soon become highly competitive.

Her declaration has already sparked discussions in political circles as the countdown to the 2027 Nigerian elections begins.
