🔴 Mixed Reactions as Peter Obi Speaks on Detention of Malami and El-Rufai

Peter Obi Condemns Detention of Malami and El-Rufai
“End Persecution of Political Opponents” — Peter Obi Warns Government

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reacted to the continued detention of former government officials Abubakar Malami and Nasir El‑Rufai, urging authorities to respect the rule of law.
Obi made the remarks in a statement shared on his account on X (Twitter), where he expressed concern about what he described as the persecution of political opponents.
According to Obi, the Nigerian government must ensure that anti-corruption efforts are carried out transparently and fairly without targeting individuals because of their political affiliations.
The former presidential candidate also referenced the arrests and ongoing detention of Malami, a former Attorney-General of the Federation, and El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, both reportedly linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi warned that the integrity of the justice system must be protected, especially as Nigeria moves closer to another election cycle.
He wrote:
“Time to end the persecution of political opponents. The integrity of the rule of law in Nigeria is non-negotiable; its degradation undermines our economic development and threatens national stability.”
His statement has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians supporting his call for fairness while others argue that investigations into alleged corruption should proceed regardless of political status.
