Bayelsa Senator Slams APC, Says Country Moving Backward
“Nigeria Is More Divided” — Dickson Criticises APC Leadership
Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West in the Nigerian Senate, has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party has worsened divisions and weakened national development indicators in Nigeria.
The former Bayelsa State governor made the remarks during an interview on TVC News, where he discussed the country’s political situation and governance.
According to Dickson, the APC has deepened ethnic and religious divisions across the country.
“The APC has left Nigeria more divided. The APC is built on the fault lines of our country. Ethnicity and religious bigotry have taken centre stage,” he said during the interview.
The senator also criticised the administrations of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the current president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that Nigeria’s development indicators have declined under their leadership.
“The late President Buhari took Nigeria from top to bottom… and the current President has taken Nigeria backward,” Dickson said.
However, he clarified that his criticism was directed at the APC as a political party rather than solely at the present administration.
Dickson added that Nigeria’s democracy requires strong opposition parties and commended efforts by political groups such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to strengthen political competition in the country.
The senator concluded by calling for what he described as a “new beginning” in Nigeria’s political direction, stressing the importance of inclusive governance and democratic accountability.
