🦅 SUPER EAGLES GET WORLD CUP LIFELINE! FIFA Kicks DR Congo Out for Fielding Ineligible Player

Nigeria didn't need a penalty shootout this time — they won in the boardroom.

In a dramatic twist that has sent Nigerian football fans into a frenzy, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has handed the Super Eagles a World Cup ticket after ruling that DR Congo fielded an ineligible player in the decisive Best Losers Playoff match — the very game that had broken Nigerian hearts just months ago.

The match originally ended 2–1 to the Leopards. Champagne was popped in Kinshasa. Nigeria went home empty-handed. But the NFF refused to accept defeat quietly, filing a formal protest that alleged one of DR Congo's players had never completed a mandatory nationality switch process before pulling on the Congolese jersey.

FIFA investigated. FIFA agreed. The verdict? DR Congo 0–3 Nigeria — on paper.

According to the ruling, the player in question had previously represented another national association at youth level and had started — but crucially never finished — the formal change of association process. Written approval from FIFA, a non-negotiable requirement before any player can feature in an "A" international, was simply never granted.

Game over. Match forfeited. Ticket: Nigeria's.

"Administrative processes must be fully concluded before player participation," the Committee noted, in what reads as a stern warning to every federation in world football.

DR Congo still has the right to appeal before the FIFA Appeals Committee, so the drama may not be over just yet. But for now, the Super Eagles are heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico — not on the wings of a last-minute goal, but on the strength of the rulebook.
