BREAKING: Nigeria Confirmed for 2026 FIFAe Nations League Amid Ongoing World Cup Drama

Nigeria has been officially listed among participating nations for the 2026 FIFAe Nations League, following confirmation from world football governing body FIFA.
The announcement secures Nigeria’s place in FIFA’s flagship esports competition across three divisions: eFootball console, eFootball mobile, and Rocket League.
According to FIFA’s release:
115 countries will compete in eFootball console
81 countries will feature in eFootball mobile
84 countries will participate in Rocket League

Nigeria successfully qualified in all three categories, marking a significant milestone for the country’s growing esports presence.

DR Congo Misses Two Categories
Interestingly, the DR Congo national football team — currently locked in a legal dispute with Nigeria over 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification — qualified only for the console division and missed out on the other two categories.

The FIFAe competition now offers Nigeria another opportunity to compete on the global FIFA stage, especially as uncertainty continues to cloud the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup hopes.
World Cup Petition Still Pending
Nigeria remains in limbo over its petition to FIFA challenging the eligibility of certain DR Congo players who featured in the Leopards’ penalty shootout victory over the Nigeria national football team on November 16, 2025.
The defeat denied Nigeria the African ticket to the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) subsequently filed a petition seeking to overturn the result and have Nigeria reinstated in place of DR Congo.

If successful, Nigeria would take on the winner of the semi-final between Jamaica and New Caledonia during the March international window.

However, with less than four months to the tournament, FIFA’s silence has left fans anxious about the country’s fate.
Esports Bright Spot Amid Uncertainty
While traditional World Cup qualification remains uncertain, Nigeria’s confirmation for the FIFAe Nations League provides a silver lining — highlighting the country’s rising influence in competitive gaming on the international stage.
