Nigerian Woman Shares Story of Sexual Assault and Its Aftermath
Survivor Speaks on Challenges of Reporting Sexual Assault
A 28-year-old undergraduate of the National Open University of Nigeria, Folakemi Ogunsusi, has spoken publicly about her experience as a survivor of sexual assault.
Ogunsusi shared her story during an interview with News Central TV, where she described the events that led to the alleged incident and the challenges she faced afterward.
According to her account, the situation began after she contacted a man who claimed to specialize in graphic design and logo creation. She said she later visited his residence to follow up on the work arrangement.
Ogunsusi alleged that the visit resulted in a sexual assault.
After the incident, she said she attempted to reach the man, but he reportedly denied that anything had occurred.
A month later, Ogunsusi said she discovered she was pregnant and informed him about the development. She claimed his response suggested that she should handle the situation the same way other women her age do.
Her story has sparked renewed conversations about the challenges faced by survivors of sexual violence, particularly when seeking justice or support.
Advocates say cases like this highlight the importance of stronger protections, proper investigations, and greater support systems for victims of sexual assault.
Experts also stress the need for improved awareness, legal protection, and accessible support services for survivors across Nigeria
