Army Officer Killed as Boko Haram Attacks Multiple Military Bases in Borno

Nigerian Army Repels Terrorist Assaults in Konduga, Marte and Mainok
Commanding Officer Killed During Boko Haram Attacks on Borno Bases

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a commanding officer was killed after terrorists launched coordinated attacks on several military locations in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria.
According to security sources, fighters linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province attacked military formations in Konduga, Mainok, Jakana, and Marte between late Thursday night and the early hours of Friday.
During the clashes, a commanding officer identified as Lieutenant Colonel S. I. Iliyasu reportedly lost his life while leading troops in the battle.
Military sources said the insurgents attempted to overrun the bases using gunfire and improvised explosive devices. However, troops under the Operation Hadin Kai theatre command fought back and eventually repelled the attacks.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, was reported to have visited Maiduguri for an emergency security briefing following the incident.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has dismissed widespread reports claiming that more than 40 soldiers were killed in the attacks, describing the figure as misleading and exaggerated.
Authorities said troops also inflicted casualties on the terrorists during the counter-attack and prevented the insurgents from fully taking control of the targeted bases.
The attacks highlight the continuing security challenges in Nigeria’s North-East region, where the military has been battling insurgent groups for over a decade.
